lyrics

I saw at night
a man riding on a horse.
The horse was red,
standing among the myrtle trees.
Red, sorrel, white
the horses standing behind.
“What are these?” I said.
Then the angel spoke,
“I will show you what these are.”
Then the man on the horse spoke next
saying that these were the ones on patrol.
“To and fro, they walked the Earth. Walking.
To and fro, they walked the Earth. Watching.”
And now they stood ready to give a report,
“The Earth is still and quiet.”

I will always find a way to
destroy everything that we built.
Don’t bother running from me.
You know that I never feel guilt.
Everyone, everything burns down.
I am left in this hollow hole.
Do you still really think that I am the one who started this war?

Oh, Lord,
how long until You show compassion for the city?
You’ve been so indignant for so long.

“I’m jealous! I’m angry!
I will again choose you.
I’m jealous! I’m angry!
I will again choose you.”
How many times I forget
I’m the one who fell.
I’ve destroyed something that you love.
(That you once loved)

Layers and layers stacked one on one,
our skyscrapers reaching toward the sun.
When I reach the top, I look at what I’ve found.
(What have I found?)
I haven’t left the ground.

Our cities stretch out
touching the edge of the wilderness.
When I see the horses from the interstate,
I want to go back to a simpler time.

“I’m jealous! I’m angry!
I will again choose you.
I’m jealous! I’m angry!
I will again choose you.”
How many times I forget
I’m the one who fell.
I’ve destroyed something that you love.
(That you once loved)

The horses won’t save you.
There's no way out of here (out of here).
The Interstate spans far.
I am stuck here waiting for you.

I want us to be close.
Just look at my progress,
what I’ve built.
The truth is
I’ve got too much to prove.
There’s many things I wish I could undo.

I’m a captive
to my thoughts and my own deeds.
There can be no coming back from this.

“I’m jealous! I’m angry!
I will again choose you.
I’m jealous! I’m angry!
I will again choose you.”
How many times I forget
I’m the one who fell.
I’ve destroyed something that you love.
(That you once loved)
